Ibadan, Jan. 6, 2026 (NAN) A Grade A Customary Court sitting at Mapo in Ibadan has sentenced two newly-employed storekeepers: Yinusa Salami, 36 and Oyewole Onafolahan, 42, to a total of 10 months improvement each for stealing their employer’s air conditioner compressor and two car batteries.

Delivering judgment on Tuesday, the court’s President, Mrs O.E. Owoseni, said she convicted and sentenced Salami and Onafolahan based on their guilty plea and the evidence tendered against them by the prosecution.

Owoseni accepted the pictures of the air conditioner compressor, car batteries and the Plasma TV as evidence against the convicts.

“Therefore, Salami is sentenced to six months imprisonment for count one and six months imprisonment for count two respectively.

“There is no option of a fine for each of the offences. However, sentencing shall run concurrently.

“Similarly, Onafolahan is sentenced to four months imprisonment for each of count one and two respectively without any option of a fine.

“Sentencing shall run concurrently,” Owoseni held.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Ayodele Ayeni, had told the court that the convicts committed the offence on Dec. 29 at about 11.00 a.m. at the premises of Seeds of Life Nursery and Primary School, Eleyele, Ibadan.

Shedding more light on the matter, Ayeni said that the convicts confessed to stealing Mr Omotola Rungbe, their employer and school proprietor’s two car batteries valued at N120,000 and an LG Plasma TV valued at N60,000.

These, he said, were in addition to the air condition compressor valued at N150,000, all totalling N320,000.

He stated that Salami was employed only five days before conspiring with Onafolahan to perpetuate the crime.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene the provisions of Sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
