2026: Badagry LG boss sets infrastructure development as priority

Badagry (Lagos State), Jan. 6, 2026 (NAN) Mr Babatunde Hunpe, the Chairman, Badagry Local Government Area, Lagos, on Tuesday said that his administration had set infrastructure development at the top of his agenda in 2026.
Hunpe disclosed this while addressing Badagry residents on what to expect from his administration in 2026.
According to the chairman, physical upgrading of the popular Badagry Roundabout will begin by the first quarter of the year.
“Concrete plans have been put in place to improve the ambience, aesthetics and overall outlook of strategic areas within Badagry Local Government, starting with the Badagry Roundabout.
“The transformation will be evident to residents and visitors from ECOWAS member states, other parts of Lagos State and Nigerians in the Diaspora.
“Badagry Roundabout remains a strategic gateway and a reflection of Badagry’s image,” he said.
The council chairman noted that the facelift formed part of a broader infrastructural renewal and urban regeneration agenda designed to reposition Badagry as a centre of commerce, tourism and cultural heritage.
According to him, this will enhance the quality of life of the people.
Hunpe further disclosed that his administration had resolved to roll out additional people-oriented infrastructural projects across the local government.
He stressed that the initiatives would stimulate local economic activities, improve mobility and create a more enabling environment for businesses.
Hunpe stressed that more projects are in store, noting that the ongoing projects represented core areas of concentration, deliberately selected to align with and strengthen President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly at the grassroots level.
On environmental and urban management, Hunpe warned that his administration would enforce regulations prohibiting trading on drainage channels, road setbacks and other unauthorised locations.
The chairman said that such practices contributed to flooding, environmental degradation, traffic congestion and posed risks to public safety.
He appealed to residents, traders and stakeholders to cooperate with the council, assuring them that the measures were aimed at building a cleaner, safer and more orderly environment.
Hunpe reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to responsive governance, sustainable development and visible service delivery.
The chairman said that his administration would remain focused on translating policies into impactful projects that would deliver long-term benefits to the people of Badagry Local Government. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
