Sango-Ota (Ogun), Dec. 31, 2025 (NAN) A Professor of Psychology, Remi Alarape, has called on the Federal Government (FG) to prioritise massive investment in the education sector come 2026.
Alarape, a senior lecturer at the Department of Psychology, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, appealed while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Ota.
He said that better funding would reduce the crises between the FG and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
According to him, a massively funded education sector will result in the desired national development.
Alarape stated that most developed countries enjoy a knowledgeable economy by meeting the education benchmarks recommended by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organizations (UNESCO).
“Our annual budget, allocated for the 2026 budget, is N3.52 trillion; appropriately 6.1 per cent lower than the UNESCO benchmark of 15 to 20 per cent for developing countries,” he said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
