Sokoto, Dec. 16, 2025 (NAN) The Sokoto State House of Assembly on Tuesday summoned the Commissioner for Energy and Petroleum Resources, Alhaji Sanusi Dan-Fulani, over his repeated failure to honour committee invitations during its oversight functions.

The summons followed deliberations at the Committee of the Whole House, presided over by the Speaker, Alhaji Tukur Bala, during plenary.

The Commissioner was invited for a fair hearing, where he pleaded with the lawmakers to forgive his actions.

After extensive deliberations, the assembly resolved that the commissioner be served with a formal warning letter and directed him to submit a written apology to the house for his conduct.

In another development, the assembly had reconsidered and approved an amendment to the Sokoto State Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) for the 2026–2028 fiscal years.

The amendment was presented through a motion by the Majority Leader, Alhaji Bello Idris (APC–Gwadabawa North), following a request by Gov  Ahmed Aliyu in line with provisions of the Sokoto State Fiscal Responsibility Law, 2019.

Idris explained that the amendment became necessary due to the emergence of new revenue lines, which increased the projected revenue from N702.6 billion to N765.1 billion, attributed to unexpected revenue inflows.

Meanwhile, the assembly had also adopted a motion calling for the renovation and construction of additional classrooms, as well as the provision of furniture and instructional materials at the Gomara Primary School in Yabo Local Government Area.

Presenting the motion, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu (APC–Yabo) said the poor condition of facilities at the school had negatively affected pupils’ learning environment, making it difficult for them to concentrate and impacting academic performance.

Following contributions from members, the speaker put the motion to a voice vote and it was unanimously approved by the lawmakers. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
