Jos, Dec. 19, 2025 (NAN) A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced two men, Kefas Bala and Shamma Emmanuel, to one year’s imprisonment each for stealing a mobile phone valued at N140,000.
The convicts, Bala, 20, and Emmanuel, 22, pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and theft brought against them by the police.
The Magistrate, Mrs Irene Pati, sentenced each of the convicts to six months’ imprisonment for conspiracy and six months’ imprisonment for theft, and ordered that the sentences should run consecutively.
The magistrate, however, gave each convict an option of a N30,000 fine.
She also ordered them to pay N70,000 each as compensation to the complainant.
While reviewing the facts, the prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the complainant, Mr Meshack Ishaya, reported the case on Sept. 25 at the Gada Biyu Police Station.
Gokwat said the convicts pretended to engage the complainant in a conversation, stole his phone valued at N140,000 and fled.
He said the convicts later sold the phone to an unknown person.
He said the offences contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
