2027: ECDA dissociates self from endorsement of political office aspirants

Endorsement

By Awayi Kuje

Nassarawa-Eggon (Nasarawa State), Dec. 22, 2025 (NAN) The Eggon Cultural and Development Association (ECDA) Worldwide has dissociated itself from the purported endorsement of Mr Solomon Akwashiki for the Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mr David Abuluya, President of ECDA, made the clarification on Monday during a press conference in Nassarawa-Eggon,  Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the leadership of the ECDA Southern Senatorial Zone had, on Dec. 13, reportedly endorsed Akwashiki, who currently represents Lafia Central Constituency in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, for the House of Representatives seat.

Abuluya said the association’s national leadership had rescinded and declared the endorsement invalid, stressing that ECDA remained strictly non-partisan.

“The purported endorsement of any political aspirant, including Hon. Solomon Akwashiki, by the ECDA Southern Zone is hereby rescinded and declared null and void.

“ECDA is, and must always remain, non-partisan. Our strength has always been our unity, fairness to one another and our commitment to the common good,” he said.

According to him, the decision by the Southern Zone leadership violated the ECDA constitution and departed from the association’s core mandate.

Abuluya explained that Section 4, Subsection 1 of the ECDA constitution clearly mandates the association to promote unity, peace, understanding and a sense of belonging among the Eggon people, irrespective of status, ideology, religion or political affiliation.

“By endorsing one aspirant over other qualified Eggon sons and daughters who may be vying for the same position across different political parties, the Southern Zone leadership has sown division and contravened the foundational principles of ECDA,” he said.

He added that ECDA was established as an umbrella and unifying platform for all Eggon people and would not become a campaign platform or endorsement vehicle for any individual or political party.

“The selection of candidates is the sole prerogative of political parties, based on their constitutions and internal democratic processes. It is not the business of ECDA,” Abuluya said.

The ECDA president urged all chapters of the association, both within Nigeria and in the Diaspora, to refrain from using the ECDA platform for partisan political activities.

He reaffirmed the association’s neutrality and commitment to providing a level playing field for all Eggon sons and daughters, irrespective of their political affiliations.

“We encourage our members to participate actively in the democratic process, but to do so as individuals exercising their civil rights, not under the banner of ECDA,” he said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
