Amuro (Kogi), Dec. 29, 2025 (NAN) The Orokere-Amuro community in Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi celebrated its annual cultural day, spotlighting heritage preservation and grassroots development.
Organised on Monday by the Orokere Amuro Welfare Association (OWA) and the Traditional Council, the event attracted government officials, politicians, business leaders and community members.
OWA National President, Mr Olusegun Peter, urged support for the N100 million Community Development Fundraising Initiative to drive priority projects.
“This celebration reflects our rich culture, unity and shared responsibility for development,” Peter said, thanking elders, members and diaspora supporters.
Peter also remembered community members lost during the year, praying for peace for their souls.
He said the festival promoted intergenerational transmission of traditions, stressing values of hard work, discipline and respect.
Peter commended the Planning Committee and appreciated the Traditional Council and elders for guidance and stability.
The AjugbonJagun of Orokere Amuro, Oba Arogbonlo Micheal, thanked guests for attending despite national insecurity challenges.
“We thank God for protection and appreciate our royal fathers for their steadfast support,” the traditional ruler said.
Dignitaries urged unity to enhance security, calling for timely and credible information sharing with security agencies to combat criminality.
Kogi Commissioner for Information, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, praised Orokere’s cultural depth and urged vigilance against banditry.
“We must expose them anywhere we see them before they strike,” Fanwo said.
Mopamuro Chairman, Mr Ademola Bello, and community leaders stressed unity, while Commodore Folusho Michael Daniel (rtd) said, “Security is everybody’s business.”
Highlights included the N100 million fund launch, free medical services, cultural displays, awards of recognition and exhibitions of local delicacies. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
