Abakaliki, Jan. 4, 2026 (NAN) Gov. Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi has confirmed Starplus Anista as the substantive Chief Coach for Abakaliki FC, after the team’s impressive run under his watch as an interim Coach.
The confirmation is contained in a statement issued in Abakaliki by the club’s Chairman, Sen. Obinna Ogba, and made available to newsmen on Sunday.
Ogba stated that the governor was impressed with Anista’s performance since he took over the club.
“Anista, popularly called the City Gaffer, has led the team to secure three home wins, two away draws and one away loss.
“This performance has propelled the team to the top of the Nigeria National League (NNL) table after six matches,” he added.
Ogba, a former Vice President, Nigeria Football Federation, further stated that the governor charged Anista “to acquire the services of experienced coaches as assistants.
“This is to help the young coach in the club’s promotion charge.
“The governor has promised to provide all the necessary support to the club to finish the season on a high note,” the statement added.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Anista replaced Ifeanyi Onyedika, who was suspended after the club’s 1-1 draw in its first NNL home match of the season.
The club came second in the 2025 President’s Federation Cup under Onyedika’s tutelage and its first season on the national scene. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
