Lagos, Jan. 10, 2026 (NAN) Shina Phillips, President of the Nigeria Pitch Awards, praised Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle for instilling tactical discipline at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Phillips spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) after Nigeria beat Algeria 2–0 to reach the AFCON semi-finals. Both goals came in the second half.

Victor Osimhen of Galatasaray opened scoring in the 48th minute, later assisting Akor Adams for Nigeria’s second goal.

“Congratulations to the Super Eagles. This win is very important and has lifted the spirit of Nigerians.

“I believed winning the 2025 AFCON would compensate Nigerians after missing the World Cup,” he said.

Phillips highlighted the team’s growing confidence and organisation. “Players are more serious, confident on the ball, and committed in attack,” he said.

Looking ahead to Morocco, Phillips said: “Morocco is strong, but Nigeria understands football. We are not just lovers; we understand techniques and what it means to be giants.”

He commended Chelle for managing both players and fans’ expectations. “Coach Chelle knows the psychology of players and the passion of Nigerians,” Phillips stated.

He added: “The Nigerian spirit is in the players. It only needed someone to bring it out. They see themselves as patriots playing for national pride.”

He called for continued support. “Chelle deserves the prayers and support of all Nigerians as the team pushes for the AFCON title,” Phillips said. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
