Kaduna , Dec. 10, 2025 (NAN) The Southern Kaduna Journalists’ Forum (SKJF) on Wednesday hailed President Bola Tinubu for appointing the former Chief of Defence Staff, retired Gen. Christopher Musa as the Minister of Defence, describing the decision as “well-deserved and nationally reassuring.”
Addressing a press briefing, the forum said Musa’s elevation was a fitting recognition of his “illustrious military career, strategic brilliance and unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s unity and security.”
The press briefing was jointly addressed by SKJF Chairman, Ango Bally, and Secretary, Lilian Silas.
SKJF stated that Musa’s tenure as the Chief of Defence Staff earned him “national and international respect,” adding that his track record positioned him as a capable hand to steer the nation’s defence architecture at a critical time.
The group also commended the Senate for what it called a “swift and professional confirmation process,” saying the bipartisan support Musa enjoyed demonstrated broad confidence in his integrity and capacity.
SKJF further lauded Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State for what it described as his pivotal role in advancing development in Southern Kaduna and in supporting Musa’s nomination.
The forum highlighted projects such as the University of Applied Sciences, Kachia; the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan; and the completion of the abandoned infrastructure as evidence of the Governor’s commitment to inclusive development.
According to the forum, Sani’s support for Musa’s appointment reflected “a bridge-building leadership style” that stood in contrast to what it called the “exclusionary tendencies” of the former administration.
SKJF recalled that in September 2023 it had appealed to Tinubu to allocate the state’s ministerial slot to Southern Kaduna following the Senate’s rejection of the earlier nominee.
The forum said the president’s decision restored a sense of fairness and strengthened national cohesion.
Describing Musa’s appointment as a “moment of pride” for the region, the forum expressed confidence that the new defence minister would deploy competence, capacity, courage and character in addressing the country’s security challenges.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to credible journalism and nation-building, pledging continued support for policies that promote unity and shared prosperity.
It prayed for divine guidance for the new minister as he undertakes his national assignment.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
