Awka, Dec. 11, 2025 (NAN) No fewer than 50 journalists on Thursday benefitted from the maiden medical outreach organised by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra Chapter, as part of activities marking its Week.
The outreach, held in collaboration with Rock Foundation Hospital, Awka, featured screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar and oxygen level.
Declaring the exercise open, Dr Chukwudi Njelita, Chief Medical Director, Rock Foundation Hospital, said the intervention was in solidarity with the media community, especially sports journalists.
He expressed the hospital’s delight in partnering with SWAN and urged journalists to prioritise their health while carrying out their professional duties.
Also speaking, Chief Paul Nwosu, former Commissioner for Information in Anambra, said he took part in the medical checks because he remained a journalist at heart.
Nwosu commended Rock Foundation Hospital for its service to humanity, noting that the media community looked forward to future collaborations with the facility.
“Even though I am not a member of SWAN, I am a journalist, a reporter for that matter and that is why I am here to show solidarity with my colleagues.
“I want to thank the management of this hospital and pray that this institution will grow from strength to strength.
“You have shown us love and we promise to make you part of our activities going forward,” he said.
In his remark, Mr Chimezie Anaso, Chairman of SWAN, Anambra Chapter, applauded members for participating in the health exercise.
He urged them to attend the lecture and recognition event scheduled for Friday Dec. 12, 2025.
He also thanked the management of Rock Foundation Hospital for supporting the 2025 SWAN Week.(NAN) www.nannews.ng
