Badagry (Lagos State), Dec.28, 2025 (NAN) The alumni of Iworo-Ajido Model College, Ebute-Olofin Badagry Old Student Association (IAMCOSAEB) in Lagos, on Sunday lamented the deplorable state of the college.

They registered their displeasure on the dilapidated infrastructure of the school during the Association’s Annual General Meeting held at the college in Iworo-Agido, Badagry Local Government, Lagos.

The President of the Association, Mr Okelowo Oyedele, said the decaying situation of infrastructure in the college is pathetic.

“I finished in 1983, then I remembered we have laboratory for Science Students, but my assessment of the school in the last two years, we need Lagos State Government (LASG) intervention.

“Apart from infrastructural decay, some students have no desks and table to receive teaching, thereby sitting on the floor learning.

“Students are coming from seven communities in Badagry to study at Iworo-Ajido College, so we have more than 1,000 students moving from one class to the other.

“Before the college was Iworo-Ajido high School, but it was classified as one of the model schools 10 years ago by Lagos State.

”Since then, it has not been given prototype building like others,” he said.

Prof Olusegun Whenu, an alumni of the college presenting a cash reward to most outstanding student in the school in 2025.

The president urged the LASG to intervene and build a prototype building for the college making learning comfortable for the students.

He said the association had bought desks and tables for the use of over 100 students.

Also, the Vice-president of the association, Mrs Margaret Olusanya, revealed that she left the college in 1983.

“I happened to be the first female science student of the college because students were running away from the subject.

“Those years, science laboratories were functioning well, science teacher offices were attached to the lab.

“But today, if you go to the lab, you don’t need a prophet to tell that the lab had not been in use in the last decade.

“Even the classes we used in form four and five had gone. All infrastructure in the school is overdue.

“Students in JS1 and SSI are bringing their mother’s wrappers to school to sit on and learn. This is ridiculous,” she said.

A lecturer at the Lagos State University (LASU) Ojo, Prof. Olusegun Whenu, said the college was in excellent condition when he left the school in 1983.

“Honestly, leaving the school since 1983 and coming back to see the college in this deplorable state is pathetic.

“Considering the fact that some students are sitting on the floor, writing and learning is another thing that saddened my heart.

“One wonder what is happening to the social responsibility of companies and industries because government can’t do it alone,” he said.

The Principal, Iworo-Ajido Senior College, Rev. Omodele Aminu, said all SS1 students of the college were sitting on the floor to write and learn.

“The situation is pathetic and we are not permitted to tell students to bring chairs and desk to school.

“Unfortunately, when it rains, the roof of most classrooms leaks thereby making students to run from one building to another,” he said.

Also, the Principal of the junior college of the school, Mr Oluwatoyin Adeleye, said as a result of lack of classrooms, the school had to make use of two classrooms from the Senior College.

Adeleye also said that the JSS1 students of the college were also sitting on the floor to learn.

According to him, we are managing what we have to get what we need.

However, Mr Paul Akinyele, the Personal Assistant to the Permanent Secretary, Education District five, Lagos, said the ministry visited the school recently.

Akinyele said the permanent secretary had access the situation of the school, assuring that the prototype building would be constructed in 2026.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some students who performed excellently in their academy were financially rewarded while staff and non-academic staff were also rewarded. (NAN)
