Badagry (Lagos State), Dec.19, 2025 (NAN) Mr Babatunde Hunpe, the Chairman of Badagry Local Government Area of Lagos State, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the protection and welfare of women.
Hunpe disclosed this at the 7th Edition of the Badagry Women’s Symposium with the theme
“Empowering Women, Transforming Lives; Women as Catalysts for Change”, organised by the council on Friday in Badagry.
According to the chairman, empowering women strengthens families and accelerates community development.
He described the symposium as a platform to celebrate women from all walks of life — artisans, traders, farmers, civil servants, young women, and mothers who hold families together against all odds.

The chairman assured that the 2025 edition of the Symposium would be a turning point for many women in Badagry, with many activities to facilitate positive change.
Hunpe announced the continuation of the Asiwaju Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, with its second edition dedicated exclusively to women.
According to him, under the scheme, 200 Badagry women would receive ₦100,000 each to support their businesses and livelihoods.
Mrs Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, charged women to remain steadfast in their roles as custodians of homes, values, discipline, and societal ethics.
Salu-Hundeyin, who was also the chairperson of the event, encouraged participants to leverage gatherings such as the symposium for networking, idea sharing, and business opportunities.
She advised women to mentor younger females into leadership and actively participate in politics.
The SSG lauded Hunpe and his wife for sustaining the symposium, describing it as a unique and trailblazing initiative in Lagos State.

Salu-Hundeyin announced the restructuring and renaming of the event from the Badagry Women Symposium to the Badagry Women Conference, expanding it from a one-day event into a week-long programme to deepen its impact.
Mrs Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, the Special Guest of Honour, urged women to take active roles in partisan politics, prioritise personal development, and build capacity for leadership.
She also charged beneficiaries of the cash grants and raffle prizes to make judicious use of the opportunities provided.
In her remarks, Mrs Elizabeth Hunpe, the wife of the Chairman, BLG, described women as the true strength of homes and communities.
She highlighted the tireless efforts of women traders, artisans, farmers, civil servants, mothers, and young women striving to find their feet.
According to her, the symposium is designed to make every woman feel valued, respected, inspired, and empowered to overcome challenges and build a better future.
She reminded attendees that women play a pivotal role in nation-building, raising children, managing homes, supporting their husbands, and contributing to family livelihoods.
She encouraged participants to share experiences, learn from one another, and draw strength from collective empowerment, noting that when women are supported, families thrive, and communities prosper.
