Birnin-Kudu (Jigawa), Dec.14, 2025 (NAN) A member of the Birnin-Kudu Old Boys Association (BIKOBA), Mr Muhammad Alhassan, on Sunday urged members to embrace technology, in a bid to stay relevant in a digital age.
Alhassan gave the advice during the 41st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association held on Sunday in the school’s premises.
Presenting a paper at the event, he noted that technology does not only create jobs, but destroys the “old ones” who fail to upgrade.
He underscored the need for members to enhance their skills and shapen their career path, by accessing world-class learning platforms.
“There are several tools for building digital skills; AI powered guidance and feedback and professional networks that connects you to global opportunities.
“Also, there are working tools that improve productivity and efficency and provide opportunities for remote work and freelancing pathways,” he said.
Meanwhile, he urged members to stop lamenting about the past but to focus on the present, in a bid to shapen the future.
“We should not be like relics of a by-gone era, but piomeers in a new age; We should adapt, evolve and rise, since technology does not replace people but rather reward people who utilise it,” he said
In his remarks, the National President of the association (BIKOBA) Mr Ja’afar Usman, called for increased support from government and other stakeholders.
Usman said that the idea of holding the annual meeting at the school’s premises, is to enable members assess the condition of their alma mater, and identify areas of intervention.
He commended the Jigawa State government, for its support in the education sector, particularly the budgetary provision for the renovation of the college.
On behalf of the association, Usman acknowledged the support of Dangote Foundation, Ganduje Foundation, Qatar International and the National Communications Commission (NCC), alongside contributions from class chapters.
He also commended the Birnin Kudu and Buji Local Government Councils, for their support to the college during emergencies.
Meanwhile, the President appealed for financial support in rehabilitating the BIKOBA secretariat annex in Dutse, to keep it in good shape.
He also cautioned against admitting students into senior secondary school, without completing their junior secondary education, adding that this could lower the academic standards. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
