Court remands man over alleged threat to life, phone damage

Ibadan, Dec. 16, 2025 (NAN) A Grade A Customary Court sitting at Mapo in Ibadan on Tuesday remanded Kale Mbanu in a correctional centre over alleged threats to life and the damaging of an iPhone Pro Max 16 worth N2.3 million.

Mbanu, 26, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of threat to life and malicious damage brought against him.

The court’s President, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000, with two reliable sureties in like sum.

Akintayo remanded the defendant at the correctional centre until he fulfilled the bail conditions.

She subsequently adjourned the case until Feb. 15, 2026, for hearing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Ayeni, told the court that the defendant committed the crime on Dec. 6 at about 9.00 a.m. at Kolawole Street, Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Ayeni added that the defendant threatened to stab the complainant, Aiyat Abubakar, with a knife after damaging her iPhone Pro Max 16, valued at N2.3 million.

He stated that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 86 and 451 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
