Super Eagles

Lagos, Dec. 30, 2025 (NAN) Mr Chris Green, Rivers State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, on Tuesday urged the Super Eagles to keep fighting for a fourth AFCON title.
Green made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reacting to Nigeria’s 3–1 victory over Uganda’s Cranes.
NAN reports that the Super Eagles completed three wins from three Group C matches at the ongoing 2025 AFCON, with Uganda their latest victims.
Paul Onuachu opened the scoring with a composed close-range finish, redeeming an earlier missed chance after a fine pass from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.
Raphael Onyedika doubled the lead in the 62nd minute, latching onto a perfectly weighted pass from Samuel Chukwueze.
Onyedika completed his brace five minutes later, calmly finishing after Chukwueze beat his marker and cut the ball back.
An elated Green said the flawless group run demanded stronger unity, renewed resolve and healthy competition within the squad.
“The three wins in the group are welcome. I’m very happy. The team is shaking off the disappointment of World Cup non-qualification.
“They have won three out of three, which is excellent. But they must not be carried away or rest on their oars.
“The real fights are just starting. There is always a temptation to relax, but this is when focus matters most,” he said.
However, Green, a former Commissioner for Sports, urged caution against tougher opposition in the knockout rounds.
“The higher you go, the tougher it becomes. They must concentrate and put their name on the trophy.
“It is now knockout football. They should keep their eyes on the prize and make Nigerians proud,” Green added.
He said the wins had boosted morale and momentum within the team.
“The boys now have very high morale. The momentum is with them, so they must enjoy it and make the best of it,” he said.
On coach Eric Chelle’s midfield tweaks, Green described the changes as welcome and healthy for competition.
“Kudos to the new guys; they came in and did the magic. A team is a team. Whether starters or reserves, they share the same philosophy and understanding,” Green added.
He said no player should claim permanent ownership of any position.
“That tweak brings competitiveness. Players coming in should fit properly, and nobody should feel too comfortable,” he said. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
