Group brings yuletide cheer, charity support to underprivileged in Abakaliki

Abakaliki, Dec.20, 2025 (NAN) A group known as the Urban Progressives Movement (UPM) on Saturday, distributed food items to the less privileged in the urban community of Abakaliki, as part of its yuletide outreach.
Coordinator of the group, Mr Ifeanyi Ogbuani, said that the gesture is part of the club’s objective of assisting the less privileged in the face of hardship.
He said that the group is distributing food items like rice, cooking condiments among others including cash gifts to over 400 households in the community.
“This gesture is part of the club’s annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, to identify with thee less privileged in Abakaliki urban community.
“We use this period especially to bring smiles, relief and renewed hope to hundreds of families.
“We know what this gesture means to the benefiting households but above being a material support, it is our own way of valuing and remembering them,” he said.
He pointed out that the group is non-political and focuss on enhancing the well being of citizens as well as giving them orientation on the adoption of societal best values.
Reacting to the gesture, a member of the community, Chief Ugo-Martins Okoli, thanked the group for the initiative, adding that society requires re-orientation on assisting the needy.
Okoli commended the unity among members of the group and urged them not to deviate from the principles with which they operates.
“Christmas is a period of love and peace and I commend you for realising that these our mothers especially, need smiles on their faces this yuletide.” he said.
He pledged his continued support to the group and also made a donation in support of their humanitarian activities.
In the same vein, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the state. government on Local Government Affairs, Chief Paul Nwogha, also commended the group and urged other organisations to emulate it.
While making his donation, he urged the group to extend its operations.
A beneficiary, Mrs Bridget Alo, thanked the group for the gesture and prayed for God’s continued blessing and upliftment upon its members.(NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
