Calabar, Dec 10, 2025 (NAN) The Standard Ambassadors, a Cross River-based group, says it is organising a football tournament with the aim of promoting President Tinubu’s positive works.
The Local Organising Committee (LOC), Chairman, Effiom Effi-Watt, told newsmen in Calabar on Wednesday that the tournament will take place between December 13 and 20.
Effi-Watt said that apart from showcasing the positive works of the Tinubu-led government, the football competition would deepen unity among youths in Cross River South.
“We are using this event to urge our youths to queue behind President Tinubu, Gov. Bassey Otu, and Sen. Ekpenyong, they are doing well for the people,” he said.
He said that the Standard Ambassadors, were mainly friends of Sen. Asuquo Ekpenyong, the senator representing Cross River South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
Speaking about the competition with tbe theme: “Kicking Together, Winning Together” the LOC chairman said that eight teams would participate in the tournament.
Effi-Watt said that all the matches would be played at neutral venues to avoid home advantage syndrome.
“The organisers will ensure fairness all through the tournament, the competition will use the knockout format.
“We are working in synergy with the Cross River Football Association, we want to adhere strictly to professional standards,” he said.
He further said that the event would provide opportunities for talented players to be discovered by sports managers.
On his part, the Secretary, Cross River Football Association, Talabi Oke, said that the completion would strictly adhere to professional rules and standards.
He urged coaches to understand and adhere to the rules of the game in order to reduce unnecessary tensions during matches.
“Referees must be respected, officials should encourage players rather than cause conflicts.
“The tournament’s primary goal is to showcase grassroots football talents, and strengthen pace and unity,” he said.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
