Jos, Jan. 9, 2026 (NAN) Plateau governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has underscored the need for international partnerships and programmes to strengthen human capital development across the state.
Mutfwang spoke on Friday in Jos while receiving the national president of the United States Government Exchange Alumni Association of Nigeria (USGEAAN), Dr Nosa Tukura, and her delegation.
The governor said educational exchanges and international collaboration were transformative, adding that such partnerships position societies for global competitiveness.
“International exposure plays a critical role in shaping leadership capacity. My experience in exchange programmes significantly influenced my political and leadership journey,” Mutfwang said.
He described the exchanges as profound, noting that they marked a paradigm shift in his perception of leadership and public service.
Mutfwang said the visit came at a critical time, citing declining school enrolment in mining-dominated areas of the state.
He also disclosed that enforcement operations uncovered underage girls involved in prostitution, with some already exposed to substance abuse.
“These trends pose serious social and security risks. Coordinated social action is essential, and committed individuals like you can help reshape the future,” he said.
The governor stressed the need to upgrade Plateau’s education system, warning of a growing gap between global technological advancement and local learning environments.
He added that Nigeria’s stability was vital to global peace, urging stronger Nigeria–United States collaboration for mutual benefit.
Earlier, Tukura commended Mutfwang’s administration, noting that Plateau produced the association’s first-ever national president.
She described the achievement as historic and reflective of the intellectual depth of Plateau people.
Tukura praised the governor’s commitment to women’s leadership and called for collaboration with USGEAAN to empower 1,000 youths, particularly women. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
