Kano, Dec. 20, 2025 (NAN) The Kano government has approved N38.6 billion to fast track execution of viable social and economic development projects in the state.
Ibrahim Wayya, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, said this on Friday at a news conference on the outcome of the 35th State Executive Council (SEC) meeting.
He said that Gov. Abba Kabir-Yusuf presided over the meeting held on Dec. 18, which focused on governance, infrastructure development and service delivery.
He said the council approved N1.6 billion for settlement of outstanding obligations to boarding schools’ suppliers for the 5th to 11th weeks of the First Term 2025/2026 academic session.
Wayya said that N369.9 million has been approved for the rehabilitation of Government Secondary School, Mariri, while N375 million for the procurement of 50,000 crate bags for primary and secondary school students across the state.
He said the SEC approved N1.3 billion for the relocation and reconstruction of Maikwatashi and Danwaire Primary Schools to Gama ‘C’ in Nassarawa Local Government Area.
The commissioner said the council approved N171.4 million as the revised cost for the construction of the Panda – Hamdullahi – Albasu – Sakwayen Dutse Road in Albasu LGA.
Wayya said that N111.7 million would be expended on the rehabilitation of Gani Earth Dam in Sumaila LGA, while Gwarzo – Tsaure – Tsanyawa Road project was re-awarded at the cost of N16.2 billion.
Other approvals include N455.1 million and N591.2 million for additional works along key road corridors around the Airport Gate, Triumph Roundabout and Murtala Muhammad Way.
While N2.2 billion approved for the rehabilitation and asphaltic overlay of Murtala Muhammad Way through Bompai Road to Audu Bako Way, and N4.4 billion approved for the re-award of a 5-kilometre dualised road project in Karaye LGA.
Wayya said the council also approved N916.15 million for the construction of a Conference Centre at the Governor’s Lodge in Kwankwasiyya City; N141.07 million for the construction of a Juma’at Mosque at Imawa in Kura LGA, and N103.7 million for the renovation of a burnt mosque and Islamiyya school in Rimin Gado.
He said the council approved N182.1 million for water reticulation system from Hotoro Flyover to Hotoro ARTV communities, and N577.3 million for the settlement of diesel supply debts and outstanding energy bills owed Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).
The sum of N398.2 million has bern approved to facilitate implementation of the Phase II Abba Kabir Yusuf Reach-Out Water Supply Projects across underserved communities.
He said the council approved N318.1 million for renovation and equipping of Lamba Primary Healthcare Centre in Bichi.
On security, Wayya said the council approved N483.7 million for the procurement of 300 motorcycles for the newly established Neighbourhood Watch Corps.
Similarly; N1.4 billion has been approved for the construction of Dangora – Masama – Dansoshiya feeder road and a link road to Dansoshiya Dam in Kiru.
According to Wayya, other key approvals include N6.8 billion for payment of compensation of 5,015 property owners in Rimin Zakara under the urban programme.
Wayya said the council equally approved the engagement of the Neighbourhood Watch Corps into the state service with permanent and pensionable appointments.
The council, he said, approved the appointment of management and board members of the Kano State Mining Company, and settlement of outstanding allowances for the academic staff of the Northwest University, as well as measures to eradicate street begging in the state.
Meanwhile, a security guard in Fagge LGA, Abubakar Musa-Kalla, has donated his November salary of N30,000 to support the state’s security budget.
Musa-Kalla, who presented cash to the commissioner, said the gesture was in support of Gov. Abba Yusuf’s administration efforts to secure the state. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
