Kwara partners UNICEF, Global Fund to revitalise 5 PHCs

Ilorin, Jan. 7, 2026 (NAN) The Kwara Government has partnered with the Global Fund, through the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), to revitalise five primary healthcare facilities in the state.

Mrs Bukola Abdulganiyu, Press Secretary, Kwara State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, in a statement on Wednesday disclosed the collaboration is under the Global Fund COVID-19 Response Mechanism Grant.

Quoting the Executive Secretary of the Agency, Prof. Nusirat Elelu, she noted that the intervention aligns with the state government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen primary health care delivery and improve access to quality health services at the grassroots.

Elelu, who spoke while receiving representative of UNICEF in Ilorin, explained that the project will focus on the renovation of the main buildings, installation of solar power systems and construction of boreholes to ensure potable water supply.

She added that there will also be provision of essential medical equipment in line with approved specifications and UNICEF-led gap analysis.

Elelu assured that the project would be implemented smoothly and timely, adding that the Agency would facilitate the prompt handover of facilities to contractors.

According to her, there will be uninterrupted access to project sites and adequate security, while guaranteeing quality and timely delivery of projects.

Elelu pointed out that the Agency will create the necessary awareness campaign to communities and engage them to enable seamless execution of the project.

“A focal officer would be assigned to coordinate closely with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), UNICEF and the contractors

“Necessary arrangements would be made to prevent disruption of services during the implementation period,” she said.

She reiterated the state government’s commitment to working closely with all partners.

She also expressed appreciation to the Global Fund and UNICEF for their continued collaboration and shared commitment to strengthening primary health care systems and improving health outcomes for residents.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the UNICEF representative, Mr Gamaliel Dargam, explained that Kwara remains a priority beneficiary of the intervention.

He added that five facilities are scheduled for implementation in the state.

Dargam commended the state government for its commitment to ensuring access to quality health care for residents, promising that UNICEF would fully deliver on its responsibilities under the partnership.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the facilities include the Mobile Health Clinic, Okuta in Baruten Local Government Area; Basic Health Care Centre, Kulende in Ilorin South Local Government Area.

Others are Primary Health Care Centre, Ojagboro in Ilorin East Local Government Area; Primary Health Care Centre, Ilofa in Oke Ero Local Government Area; and Model Primary Health Care Centre, Kpada in Patigi Local Government Area. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
