Social media

Ilorin, Dec. 27, 2025 (NAN) An Ilorin-based legal practitioner, Mr Hakeem Jimoh, has advised parents to closely monitor their children to prevent them from copying harmful and misleading lifestyles promoted on social media platforms.
Jimoh gave the advice in Ilorin on Saturday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, saying many parents neglect children’s behaviour early, unintentionally encouraging imitation of social media trends.
According to him, many children copy what they see online, assuming it represents acceptable behaviour, because parents fail to provide guidance, supervision, correction, and moral direction during formative childhood years stages.
He warned that allowing children to freely follow social media trends exposed them to moral risks, societal harm, and false lifestyles, urging parents to instill discipline, values, and character from childhood.
The lawyer urged parents to be responsible, available, and attentive to their children’s upbringing, stressing that over-pampering without discipline undermined development and weakened societal values in the long term.(NAN) ( www.nannews.ng)
