Ibadan, Dec. 16, 2025 (NAN) A 31-year-old man, Taiwo Adeniyi, was on Tuesday arraigned before a Grade ‘A’ Customary Court sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, for allegedly attempting to steal an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card.
Adeniyi, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of stealing and unlawful possession of ATM cards instituted against him by the police.
Consequently, the court’s President, Mrs S. M. Akintayo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Akintayo added that each of the sureties must show evidence of possessing a National Identification Number (NIN).
She then adjourned the suit until Feb. 8, for hearing.
The prosecuting counsel, Insp Ayodele Ayeni, had told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the crime on Nov. 30, at about 10.00 a.m.
According to him, the crime supposedly occurred in the premises of Fidelity Bank, Mokola branch, Ibadan.
Ayeni further stated that Adeniyi cunningly exchanged the GTB ATM card of one Mrs Wealth Ogbenigho, attempting to steal the money in her savings account.
The prosecutor said that the defendant was also found in possession of two Opay ATM cards and one UBA ATM card, which were not his.
Ayeni said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 509 and 430 of the Criminal Code Act, Caps 38 Vol. II, Law of Oyo State 2000. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
