Makurdi, Dec. 12, 2025 (NAN) The Nigerian Navy Provost and Regulating School, Makurdi, on Friday graduated Provost Officers Course 02/25, Advanced Detective Investigation Course 02/25, and Outrider Course 09/25 in a combined graduation.

The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, said that their graduation marked another milestone in the navy’s drive to produce highly trained personnel.

Represented by the Acting Flag Officer Commanding Special Operations Command, Commodore Maksum Mohammed, Abbas commended the graduating students for completing what he described as rigorous and mentally demanding courses designed to elevate the navy’s forensic and investigative capabilities.

Abbas, who was the Special Guest of Honour, noted that the graduates form the second batch of officers and ratings to benefit from the newly introduced specialist courses, which positioned them as custodians of forensic competence and professional investigation within the service.

The CNS praised the trainees for their discipline over the 10-week programme, urging them to maintain courage, professionalism, and a deep understanding of the law as they return to their various units to take up critical duties.

He commended the commandant and staff of the school and reiterated Naval Headquarters’ commitment to supporting continuous training and retraining aimed at strengthening the Nigerian Navy Provost Department.

Abbas described the presence of key military and security dignitaries at the event as a demonstration of strong inter-agency cooperation in Benue.

He stressed that such collaboration was essential to tackling prevailing security challenges in both the state and the nation.

The Commandant of the School, Commodore Suleiman Abdullahi, said that the courses were in line with the Chief of the Naval Staff’s vision to develop a professional naval force through quality training.

Abdullahi explained that the Advanced Provost Officers Course and Advanced Detective Investigation Course were introduced to close observable gaps in forensic and investigative skills among naval provost personnel.

According to the commandant, the school adopted a mix of classroom teaching, practical demonstrations, and field exercises to ensure participants were equipped with global best practices in law enforcement, both within and outside the military environment.

He further disclosed that the two advanced courses were conducted in collaboration with Rev. Fr Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi’s Institute of Forensic Studies.

Abdullahi explained that the Outrider Course focused on practical mobility skills required for escorting Very Important Personalities (VIPs) safely.

The commandant drew attention to the school’s need for expansion, noting that its operations were constrained by its temporary site, and expressed gratitude to the Benue Government for allocating land at North Bank for the school’s eventual relocation and growth.

Also, the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Rev. Fr Moses Orshio Adasu University, Prof. Emmanuel Kenen, commended the Nigerian Navy for sustaining a productive partnership with the university.

Kenen, who was represented by Prof. Emmanuel Ottoh, said that synergy among security agencies remained crucial in addressing Nigeria’s insecurity challenges. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
