Okija (Anambra State), Jan. 8, 2026 (NAN) A NGO, the Chianyiamanda Foundation has appealed for more support and attention to girl-child education in the country.
The NGO’s National Vice-President, Uche Ndukwu, made the appeal during its New Year Outreach on Thursday held in Okija Community in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra.
Ndukwu urged governments at all levels to revive efforts at educating girls across the country.
According to her, there is dwindling attention to girl-child education in Nigeria.
She said, “We appreciate the efforts made in the past to aid girl-child education in the country.
“However, the current rate at which attention is being drawn to the challenge is dwindling at an alarming rate.
“It is time governments and other stakeholders rallied round to review the situation and emerge with best steps to address it, as millions of our girls are still out there without education.”
Ndukwu observed that poverty, religion, and customs “still pose serious challenges” to girl-child education in the country.
She called on governments at all levels to show commitment by strengthening legislations to truly ensure basic education for every girl-child.
She said that statistics showed that many Nigerian girls drop out of school between primary and junior secondary stages of education, with over 66 per cent hardly completing junior secondary school.
The group’s outreach featured donation of food items and award of scholarships with hundreds of women and girls benefitting.
One of the beneficiaries, Miss Chioma Orabuigwe, appreciated the foundation for the scholarship awarded to her, saying that it would make her educational pursuit a reality.
“With the monetary cash attached to the scholarship, the challenges of transport fare to school each morning and buying of sanitary pad is solved permanently,” Orabuigwe said. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
