OAU 49th Convocation: Use your skills to innovate, lead world – VC charges graduands

Ile-Ife (OSUN), Dec 13, 2025(NAN) The Vice-Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Prof. Adebayo Bamire, has charged the graduating students of the institution to use the knowledge acquired for the national development and advancement of the global community.

Bamire gave the advice on Friday in his address at the 49th Convocation ceremony for the 2023/2024 academic session held at Odududwa Amphitheatre Hall, in Ile-Ife.

He congratulated the graduands for their unwavering dedication to academic excellence, saying that their hard work, resilience, and commitment have earned them the various degrees and honours conferred during the convocation.

The vice-chancellor praised the parents, guardians, and family members of the graduands, noting that the achievements were a testament to their sacrifices, guidance and unwavering efforts.

He disclosed that the university has sustained the frontline position in higher education service delivery which had indeed thrills it as a flagship of academic leadership in Africa.

“We will continue to deploy our human and material resources strategically to ensure sustainable development and to drive accelerated institutional growth.

“The University currently offers 94 NUC-accredited academic programmes, providing our students with broad and robust training opportunities across diverse disciplines,” he stated.

Bamire listed the recent achievements to include “inaugural future minds AI & Robotics BOOT CAMP (Community Service/Youth Development).”

The vice-chancellor said the university has maintained strong commitment to sustaining its infrastructure through comprehensive renovation efforts, leveraging financial support primarily from TETFund and the Federal Government’s capital appropriation.

He called on stakeholders to assist the institution on the challenges facing it, which included the completion of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) Project on nearly 70 percent completion.

“New senate building funded by CBN, currently stalled at 30-35 percent, additional students’ hostel and lecture theatres, among others.”

According to him, completion of these projects will provide conducive, safe, and secure environment for the university.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the university convocated 6,562 graduates, out of which 218 bagged first class. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
