Okpebholo reaffirms commitment to people-centred development in Edo

Benin, Jan. 6, 2026 (NAN) Gov. Monday Okpebholo of Edo has reiterated his administration’s commitment to delivering visible, people-focused development across the state.

 

This is contained in statement was signed by Ebojele Patrick, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, on Tuesday in Benin.

 

Okpebholo spoke at a town hall meeting with members of the Akpakomiza Movement for Tinubu, also known as Team FIGO-Connect.

 

The governor said: “You voted for me for a reason, and that reason is the development of the state.

 

“My government’s mandate is clear and non-negotiable, focusing on transforming Edo into a modern city.”

 

He highlighted ongoing projects, including the reconstruction of Sapele Road, erosion control, road works in Ogheghe, and interventions in neglected public schools.

 

The governor attributed progress to effective funding and prompt contractor payments, stressing that development should prioritise the real needs of the people.

 

Okpebholo also praised President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing them as bold and people-focused.

 

He cited the removal of the fuel subsidy and recent tax reforms, noting Nigerians earning below ₦150,000 are now exempt from tax.

 

The governor noted SHINE agenda —Security, Health, Infrastructure, Natural Resources and Agriculture, and Education — drives sustainable development and improves Edo residents’ quality of life.

 

The meeting included APC Edo Chairman Jarrett Tenebe, Commissioner for Energy and Water Resources, Mr Washington Osifo, and other party leaders.

 

Members of the Labour Party’s Obedient Movement also attended, announcing the collapse of their structures in Edo and pledging support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election.

 

Edo Obedient Movement coordinator, Mr Ikhuenbor Igbinevbo, said the decision reflects confidence in Tinubu’s reform agenda.

 

“About 95 percent here are Obedient Movement and Labour Party stakeholders. We supported Peter Obi in 2023 but now back President Tinubu for a second term,” he said. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
