Police arraign employee over alleged conversion of N416,000

Ile-Ife (Osun), Jan 5, 2026 (NAN) The Police in Osun on Monday, dragged a 35-year-old man, Sodiq Mustapha, before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing the sum of N416,000 belonging to his employer.
The defendant, who manages a bakery, is standing trial on a two-count charge of cheating and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Asp Emmanuel Abdullahi, alleged that the defendant committed the offence sometimes in December 2025, at the Ilala Obalogun area of Ile-Ife.
He alleged that the defendant cheated his employer, one Mr Awosode Ayomikun, owner of the bakery, by refusing to remit the sum of N416,000 being sales proceeds
The defendant was alleged to have converted the money to his own use, thereby committing the offence of stealing.
The offences contravene the provisons of sections 390(9) and 421 of the Criminal Law of Osun, 2002.
The Magistrate, Mrs Abosede Sarumi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Among other conditions, the court ordered the sureties to depose to an affidavit of means, as well as provide evidence of three years tax clearance
The court adjourned the case until Jan 19, for hearing.(NAN)
