Speaking at the handover ceremony on Wednesday in Lagos, Shu’aibu said the unit recorded major operational gains during his seven months in charge.
“Between April 23 and December 10, we carried out 476 successful interceptions and seized 761 items worth N10.1 billion,” he said.
He added that the unit also strengthened compliance activities, saying,“Through detailed checks on import and export documentation, we recovered a total of $419 million into government coffers.”
Shu’aibu urged officers to maintain professionalism and support the new comptroller.
“I am confident this unit will achieve more with sustained discipline and teamwork,” he said.
In his remarks, Comptroller Aliyu said he would build on his predecessor’s momentum.
“This assignment comes with enormous responsibility, but with the cooperation of officers and stakeholders, we will deliver,” he said.
Aliyu added that enforcement would remain priority-driven.
“We will intensify intelligence-led operations to curb smuggling and protect national economic interests,” he noted.
Aliyu also pledged to strengthen internal standards, adding that professional conduct, discipline and integrity would guide their operations, and officers’ welfare would receive due attention.
