Kaduna, Dec.11,2025(NAN) The Kaduna State Commissioner for Education, Prof Abubakar Sambo has said that the ministry would focus on technical, vocational, digital and entrepreneurial skills in the 2026 fiscal year.
Speaking shortly after defending the ministry’s budget before the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Sambo described the exercise as open, frank and practical.
He also commended the government of Gov. Uba Sani for consistently prioritising education, revealing that the sector, alongside infrastructure, commands about 35 per cent of the state’s total budget.
According to him, this continued commitment reflects the administration’s determination to address longstanding challenges in the sector.
He highlighted the growing national momentum in that direction, referencing the Nigerian Governors’ Forum’s recent National Education Forum, which focused heavily on strengthening TVET systems across the country.
Sambo also listed digital skills as a central pillar of the coming year’s agenda, noting that global shifts toward digitalisation make such competencies essential for students.
In addition, he emphasised the importance of entrepreneurship education to better prepare graduates for self-reliance.
“The whole idea is to make the products of Kaduna State’s education system more of job creators rather than job seekers,” he said.
Similarly, the Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Senior Secondary Education Board, Dr Suwaiba Ibrahim, described the 2026 budget as one designed to support transformation for education and other vital sectors of the economy
Ibrahim highlighted that the board, established in May 2025 under the administration of Sani and with the backing of the State Assembly, was created to give focused attention to senior secondary education.
She explained that the establishment of the board positioned Kaduna to fully benefit from interventions from the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), the federal body responsible for supporting senior secondary education nationwide.
According to her, the proposed N93 billion budget would fund key projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure, expanding access, and improving the quality of teaching and learning in public senior secondary schools across the state. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
