Woman, 32, docked over alleged fraud

Ibadan, Dec. 23, 2025 (NAN) A 32-year-old woman, Zainab Adenike, was on Tuesday charges before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, over  alleged fraud.

Adenike, whose address was not provided was charged with obtaining gold under false pretence and stealing.

She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Samuel Owolabi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Oct.27, at Oranyan market, Ibadan.

He alleged that the defendant obtained 13.9g of  gold jewellery from one Mrs Tawa Sanusi, under the pretext of paying her N2.2 million

He alleged that the defendant also obtained 48.5g of gold jewellery from one Adeola Adewale, also with a promise of paying her N7.6 million but failed to do so.

He said that the defendant made away with the gold without paying both complainants

The offences contravene the provisions of Sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Gladys Oladele granted the defendant bail in the sum of two million naira, with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until Feb.4, 2026, for hearing. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
